Street Dreams – 22nd May- SoundControl, Manchester

If you’re the type that likes to read a few good words about an event for you to visit it, then please, let me enlighten and invite you to Manchester’s Urban Music Showcase that is Street Dreams. Introducing its third event, this time at SoundControl on May 22nd with appearances from Benny Banks, Yungen and my personal Manchester favourite; Kapital. Street Dreams will entertain and inspire you just as its name describes.

Having felt the inspiration from the first Street Dreams event in October 2012, it was a given that I would be attending the second, (which again was a success in March 2013) and undoubtedly all future events.

The creators; Becky Brown of R82 Records and Icon X Entertainment host an incredible event with an atmosphere that is inspiring, enjoyable and full of fresh musical talent. A perfect combination!

Having previously showcased Blizzard, Shotty Horroh, Kapital, One Da, Envy and Crown. This year’s showcase welcomes UK Rap HeavyWeights Benny Banks, Play Dirty Artist Yungen and Iconx & R82Records member Kapital.

Joining this stellar line up are the Batz Inda Belfry girls; whom by the way are killing their shit at the moment (excuse my English; cos its not really French is it!) and Don’t Flop battle superstar Raptor.

Again the whole night will be hosted by DJ Stylus (1Xtra/Jam).

You are guaranteed a fantastic night of live music which will no doubt leave you with great memories and inspiration to keep striving for your dreams.

Personally been waiting for the annoucement of this event since the end of the second one.

Come join the vibes and be a part of the movement. Get your ADVANCE £10 ticket here. Only 100 available and these will sell out!

“From the streets to the stage I just want you to walk with me”- Kapital, Walk With Me, 2011, BBC Mixtape of the Week.

Labrinth in Kris Van Assche at Radio 1 Big Weekend 2013

Once again Labrinth’s stylist, Ayishat Akanbi has smashed it on the fashion front. Styling the musical genius in a piece from Kris Van Assche’s Fall 13 Collection has made me Fall, in love.

Kris Van Assche Fall 13

This particular piece from the collection combines a hoodie with a tuxedo  mixing the element of casual with smart, making a perfect combination; especially for an energetic musical performance allowing movement and comfort but still possessing style!

“You are what you wear. Simple as that. Menswear is so full of rules and codes. This is about not getting put in a box.” – Kris Van Assche on his Fall 13 Collection.

Beautiful collection, perfectly styled and an excellent performance once again from Labrinth!

Bipolar Sunshine

Manchester’s former Kid British member Adio Marchant, and Producer Ola Modupe- Ojo have joined forces and created what can only be described as a beautiful soulful musical brilliance!

Few months back I pressed play on his Soundcloud, and haven’t been off it since.

The mixture of captivating sincere vocals by Adio, beautiful accompanying beats by Ola, dialogue and film samples has had everyone hooked!  With early supporters including the likes of Zane Lowe, John Kennedy, John Hillcock, Eddy Temple-Morris, BBC Introducing and a whole host of bloggers, 2013 sets to be a very exciting year for Bipolar Sunshine!

FIRE – the beautiful poetic lyrics enfused with spoken word, film samples, and gentle rap over soaring beats, bring out the texture of Adio’s stunning vocals and soulful harmonies detailing an experience you can vision and relate to under a blissful dreamy atmosphere.

I for sure, will be keeping a keen eye out for the upcoming EP, Aesthetics, released June 17th this year!

Untill then, enjoy his latest track ‘Rivers’ – another amazing uplifting track, this time with more bolder singing:

KAPITAL KO – STORY SO FAR OFFICIAL VIDEO

Kapital KO gives us his heart and soul in his latest release, Story So Far, from what originated as a personal freestyle has now evolved into a national release, showcasing his honest lyrics and amazing metaphoric lyrical ability!

Recently signed to Manchester’s Newest Urban Label and Publishing Company, R82Records; which sees the digital release of Story So Far on April 22nd. This deserving smash hit has already been played on BBC 1Xtra whom (rightly so) awarded Kapital KO’s last mixtape I Am Legend as their Mixtape Of The Week, blogged by Mobo Awards and RWD Magazine and is currently playlisted on MTV Base, Kiss and Flava.

The video shot by Matt Walker of Staplehouse, gives us amazing visual projections of Kapital KO’s honest lyrics while the #fistintheair shots get cooler throughout!

The projection of images in the background emphasising the detail of the Story So Far lyrics and the reflection of the #fistintheair shot at 3.25 (my personal fave), link extremely well with the songs origin of being a personal freestyle expressing emotions reflecting upon tough past events, and how far the track has come in forms of progression into a radio edit, official video and national release on iTunes really proves that ‘in every negative, there’s a positive’.

Download Story So Far from iTunes on April 22nd 2013!
